User guide

Ping

The round-trip time for a tiny request to reach the test server and come back. Below 20 ms is excellent for games and calls; above 100 ms you will feel lag.

Jitter

How much ping varies between packets. Low jitter (under 10 ms) keeps video calls and streams smooth.

Download

How quickly data arrives on your device: page loads, streaming, file downloads. 25 Mbps handles 4K video for one screen.

Upload

How quickly you send data: video calls, cloud backups, streaming yourself. For HD streaming aim for 5-10 Mbps.

For accurate results

Pause downloads and streams, close other tabs, and use a cable if you can. Wi-Fi speed depends on distance and walls. Run the test two or three times.

How it works

The test opens several parallel connections to the nearest Cloudflare edge server, transfers data for about 10 seconds in each direction, and reports the sustained throughput.
